Seminar by Prof. Hansjoerg Albrecher (University of Lausanne)

Title: The insurance of natural catastrophe losses and climate change

Abstract: In this talk some challenges for the insurance of losses due to natural catastrophes will be discussed, including the increasing frequency and severity of such events. The insurability of natural catastrophe losses will be examined from an actuarial angle, with a focus on how recent advances in risk modeling help to assess the diversification potential both under current and scenarios for future climate conditions. The discussion will be illustrated through concrete case studies across several regions and perils, including hail, pluvial flooding and fluvial flooding.

About the speaker: Prof. Hansjoerg Albrecher is Full Professor of Actuarial Mathematics at the University of Lausanne and faculty member of the Swiss Finance Institute. His research focuses on risk theory, actuarial mathematics, extreme and catastrophic risks, and the impact of climate change. He is Editor-in-Chief of the European Actuarial Journal and has made numerous influential contributions to actuarial science and applied probability.
